Tessa Thompson was born on 3 October 1983 in Los Angeles, USA. She is the granddaughter of Bobby Ramos (an actor /musician) and the daughter of Mark A. Thompson (a singer/ songwriter). Her father sang and wrote the songs for the New York based band ‘Chocolate Genius’. Her grandfather was one of the first Latin - Americans to have his own TV show named ‘Latin Cruise’.  She is a descendant of African-American, Mexican, Caucasian, and Central American cultures. She has many hobbies. She likes to dance, to play tennis and volleyball, to swim, to surf and cheerlead. She has acted in various films, theatre and TV shows.

She appeared for the first time in a feature film in 2006 in ‘When a Stranger Calls’ in which she played the role of “Scarlet“. She played the role of “Jackie Cook” in the TV show ‘Veronica Mars‘. She has made guest appearances for TV shows ‘Cold Case‘ and ‘Grey’s Anatomy’ and she was also seen in ‘Hidden Palms’ and ‘Barbie‘.

She acted as a tap dancing wolf in a fifth grade play, which was her first appearance on the stage. Since then she has acted in many plays, some of which are- ‘The Tempest’, ‘Twelfth Night’, ‘Summertime’, ‘Grease‘ and ‘Guys and Dolls’. She played “Juliet” in the play ‘Romeo and Juliet: Antebellum New Orleans 1836‘. She was nominated for an NAACP Image Award for her stage performance in this play. She played the lead role in the west coast premiere of Indoor/ Outdoor in 2005 at the Colony Theater in Burbank, California.

Role in Veronica Mars

Tessa Thompson is playing the role of “Jackie Cook” in ‘Veronica Mars‘. She is the daughter of Terrence Cook, a baseball legend in the Neptune Sharks. Although initially she and “Veronica” are often found butting heads, later the two become friends. She was initially befriended by “Wallace” who started dating her. Both of them came closer to each other. After Jackie’s dad is released, he starts getting threats from a casino owner to whom he owes millions. Instead of telling this truth to “Jackie”, he insisted on her leaving Neptune, as he has no time for her.  ”Jackie” has a two-year-old son, whom she left with her mother in New York when she got a new chance in Neptune. She later went back to New York, so that she could raise her son.
